Martin County Innovators Fly High at Aviation Event
Innovators working to reach a higher elevation in the evolution of aviation technology recently convened at Florida Institute of Technology in Melbourne—and two aerospace companies with ties to Martin County joined them.
Florida Advanced Air Mobility Pitch Day attracted companies pioneering new plateaus in drones, uncrewed aerial systems and the technologies that make the next generation of flight possible.
AIR EV and Edge Drone Services—both currently conducting operations in Martin County—were selected to join the cast of high-growth companies in this rapidly emerging industry subset.
AIR EV is advancing one of the most talked-about innovations—equipment that could enable electric vertical take-off and landing aircraft known as eVTOL. Although not yet FAA-approved, such aircraft may one day soon provide short-distance aerial transports for people and cargo.
Aiming to achieve FAA certification some time this year, AIR EV is currently conducting flight testing of its eVTOL in the Village of Indiantown.
Edge Drone Services creates real-time data solutions such as aerial imagery, mapping, 360-degree views and other services that further enhance drone operations.
The two companies currently working in Martin County joined others in live question and answer sessions with state officials, inquiries with investors, insights from industry experts and demonstrations and flight tests.
“This is one of the most exciting conversations taking place today in the world of aviation, business and technology and Martin County is at the table,” says William Corbin, executive director of the Business Development Board of Martin County. “We’re honored to work with innovators like AIR EV and Edge Drone Services and the Village of Indiantown as we assist them in the pursuit of advancements that will not only move our economy but move humanity in its quest for further individualized air travel.”
