Career and Technical Education Month highlights the success of CTE educators and students and the collaboration between local and state leaders, businesses, and industry partners to support workforce education.
The Martin County School District is working to ensure all students have a plan for life beyond high school. Their Secure My Future College & Career Expo recently was a dynamic collaboration between local schools and businesses, industry partners, and post-secondary institutes. Nearly 300 juniors and seniors attended the school day event, and more than 500 people participated. Families of juniors and seniors had the opportunity to meet face-to-face with dozens of college representatives and industry professionals during the event.
These events are not just for students; they are intended to work closely with industry leaders and partners to develop the workforce pipeline. Other exciting workforce news from the district:
- MSCD recently partnered with Embry Riddle Aeronautical Institute to bring a middle school-level course to Stuart Middle School. In the fall, Jensen Beach High School will start offering Aerospace Technology.
- Murray Middle School will be the first school in the district to incorporate marine industry learning into its school culture. This is the first step to bringing marine programming into our CTE offerings.
- Work-based learning means sustained interactions with industry or community professionals in actual workplace settings (or simulated environments) that foster in-depth, firsthand engagement with the tasks required of a given career field aligned to curriculum and instruction. Work-based learning encourages employability skills (such as communication, teamwork, social interaction, goal planning, problem-solving, conflict management, initiative, and enterprise, organization, self-management, resume writing, and interviewing.) Martin County School District is looking for employers to provide high school students with opportunities to complete internships or other on-the-job training opportunities.
