SFMA Excellence in Manufacturing training series returns in July.

SFMA brings back its leadership training series for manufacturers in July. Designed for front-line supervisors, team leaders, managers, general foremen, and department heads, upon completion of the five modules, students will be issued a certificate. The Leadership Series 101: Excellence In Manufacturing course is designed to give participants a better understanding of what it means to “lead” the workforce, their roles and responsibilities, how to develop an entrepreneurial mindset, and the tools and disciplines of a supervisory role in a manufacturing setting. During this training, participants will learn the skills needed to transition from a high performer to an effective leader in the organization.

The “Leadership Series” is broken into six modules designed to give the participants the tools they need to become leaders in their organization.  Each module consists of 3 to 4 hours of virtual training and discussion conducted in segments over two consecutive days for six weeks.  ALL classes are conducted virtually with a live trainer online, making these classes very interactive to ensure the participants will receive the full benefit of the program.

Module 1: Who Am I As A Supervisor?

Date / Time: July 23-24, 2024, 9:00-10:30 am.

Supervisors must understand human relations principles to lead, motivate, coach, communicate, delegate, and make decisions effectively.  This module is constructed to help the participants learn more about WHO they are, HOW they lead, their behavioral attributes, how to recognize behavioral traits and communicate with the person, and approaches to dealing with those behaviors.

Module 2: Dealing With Workplace Change

Date / Time: July 30-31, 2024, 9:00-10:30 am.

Dealing with change is complex, and changes occur frequently and rapidly in a manufacturing setting. This course is designed to train the participants to deal with change, how it affects them and those around them, how to develop resilience when change occurs, and how to identify opportunities for growth as a result of change.

Module 3: Effective Communication

Date / Time: August 6-7, 2024, 9:00-10:30 am.

Communication is the key to success at every level of an organization, and none more important than at the supervisory level.  This course is designed to give the participant the tools to provide both quantitative and qualitative input, methods of communication, and the value of the feedback process.

Module 4: Stress Management

Date / Time: August 13-14, 2024, 9:00-10:30 am.

Stress plays a vital role in all areas of life.  This module is offered to give the participant the understanding of what stress and pressure are and how this affects them both inside and outside of the workplace, how to recognize the symptoms of excessive stress in themselves and others and to have awareness, knowledge, and strategies to deal with stress more effectively.

Module 5: Decision-Making

Date / Time: August 20-21, 2024, 9:00-10:30 am.

The Supervisor’s primary responsibility in the workplace is to make effective decisions on a daily basis.  A poor decision (or NO decision) can lead to serious consequences.  In this module, the participant will learn essential topics with an outline of the decision-making process and methods for applying the steps to decision-making, as well as the basic rules for implementing the decision and the team approach to it.

Module 6: Effective Time Management

Date / Time: August 27-28, 2024, 9:00-10:30 am.

Time management has been talked about for a long time, but the term creates a false impression because time cannot be managed.  We can only manage ourselves and our use of the time we have.  This course will provide the participant with learning tools to build time management techniques into their daily routine so they can recognize and solve personal time and management time problems, to stay in control of their day and create a plan to manage their day with a concentrated focus on urgent situations and communications, understand the importance of defining priorities, and how to apply different approaches to their schedule.
