Engaging with Community Partners

Share:

United economic leadership is one of Martin County’s strengths and makes it distinctive from other communities, whether it’s a large company or small business, new to the area or an entrepreneur, or the leader of an academic or educational institution or non-profit.

That’s why the BDB listens to and engages with its economic and community partners to see how we can work together to build an even more robust and sustainable economy for Martin County. One such partner, Stuart Main Street, also has Economic Vitality as one of its Community Transformation Strategies and Four Points or principles.

Recently, Stuart Main Street partnered with Main Street America and Grow with Google to host workshops to help small business owners grow their businesses. Offering live and virtual training and hands-on coaching on topics like connecting with customers, expanding your business beyond the storefront, and improving business productivity – all for free! “The workshops have been very popular,” says Candace Callahan, Executive Director, Stuart Main Street. “Ensuring our local and downtown businesses have the tools to be as successful as possible is an important part of our mission.”

Following the tenets of Main Street America and its preservation-based approach to economic development, Stuart Main Street recently completed a survey of historical sites that currently exist within the Stuart city limits. Funded by a grant from the Division of Historical Resources, this survey updated the original survey conducted in 1991. It will catalyze generating historic preservation efforts, ordinances, education, and further economic development. With the survey completed, Stuart Main Street may now apply for a National Register of Historic Places designation for the downtown area of Stuart.
