Mattamy Homes—which is currently creating the Newfield community in Palm City—is a member our of Investor Council and the Silver sponsor of the 2026 Martin County Business Awards planned for Oct. 26.
In addition to offering up to 2 million square feet of industrial, office, hotel, retail, multifamily and flex space at its workplace district, Newfield recently celebrated the groundbreaking of its town square, which will offer 290,000 square feet of retail, restaurants, and office space.
Renowned economic journalist and local resident Knight Kiplinger is the original visionary of Newfield. Introduced in 2017, he garnered widespread support for his plans for the 3,400-acre Palm City parcel, which included placing 2,200 acres of the land into permanent open-space conservation.
Designed to appeal to priorities popular among demographics as diverse as retirees, mature and young families, millennials, and Gen Z, Newfield delivers an Old Florida Town with walkable neighborhoods, a wide variety of homes, a robust downtown square, and the aforementioned workplace district.
After a thorough review process, Kiplinger selected Mattamy Homes—the largest privately held homebuilder in North America with offices in Canada and the United States—to bring that vision to fruition.
In addition to creating the county’s first gopher tortoise recipient site, Newfield has recently earned multiple accolades from its environmentally friendly design and commitment to conservation. Following its Environmental Stewardship Award from Keep Martin Beautiful, Newfield recently achieved Land Development Certification from the Florida Green Building Coalition’s Florida Green program.
Mattamy is the first and only—at this point—private sector partner in a multiagency clean water initiative with Martin County as part of the Comprehensive Everglades Restoration Plan (CERP).
In July, the company teamed with the county, South Florida Water Management District, Florida Inland Navigation District and the Army Corps of Engineers by dedicating 125 acres of property to store muck removed from the St. Lucie River.
“Martin County prioritizes the protection of its environment and the strengthening of its economy and that’s evident in efforts like its initiative on behalf of the St. Lucie River to its support for the Business Development Board and the work it provides on behalf of local businesses,” says James Fittzgerald, vice president of community development of Mattamy’s Southeast Florida Division. “These are two of many examples as to why Martin County is the perfect host to Newfield, which is founded on honoring and encouraging outdoor living with robust career options close-by.”
Slated for a total of 4,200 units over its 15-year buildout, Newfield—which offers a variety of home styles, sizes and prices—is currently home to more than 150 families.
Situated in Palm City between the Florida Turnpike and I-95 just south of the C-23 Canal, Newfield especially appeals to those seeking a healthy, active lifestyle.
More than two-thirds of the 3,400-acre property is protected in open-space conservation. Its Kiplinger Conservancy features a network of trails through its natural lands that hikers, mountain bikers and horseback riders can enjoy.
