Village of Indiantown breaks ground on new wastewater treatment plant

INDIANTOWN—The newest municipality in Florida is celebrating major improvements in its infrastructure—and the Business Development Board of Martin County proudly got to participate in the occasion.

Incorporated in 2017, the Village of Indiantown recently held a “Celebration of Construction” ceremony for its new wastewater treatment plant.

The new facility will represent a vital step toward enhancing the quality and reliability of key services for existing residents as well as position the Village to more effectively achieve its goals of marshaling proactive, responsible growth and attracting investment and opportunity.

The BDBMC board of directors held its monthly meeting “on location” in the Village, which is a partner in economic development and member of its Investors Council. BBDB Board members joined local and state leaders in marking the milestone.

“It’s always fun to visit the Village of Indiantown and witness all the exciting things happening there,” says William Corbin, executive director of the BDBMC. “While we love seeing all the new businesses come online, this was an especially important event because this infrastructure project is vital to the health and potential of the region—and it’s only the beginning of the good things to come.”

Estimated to be operational in 2027, the existing wastewater treatment plant has undergone no notable equipment upgrades in more than 60 years and is basically functionally obsolete.

Fortunately, the Martin County Delegation—composed of Sen. Gayle Harrell, Rep. John Snyder and Rep. Toby Overdorf—worked with their fellow lawmakers, key agencies and the governor’s office to garner support and secure the funds for its improvement.

“We’re extremely excited about the strong support we’ve received from the community at large as well as from our local leaders, our delegation, the Legislature and Gov. DeSantis,” says Taryn Kryzda, Village manager. “Their support enables us to make the essential infrastructure improvements our wastewater facility needs to ensure safe, reliable service to the more than 7,000 residents and businesses that make up our current customer base and prepare us for the future.”
