Additionally, Florida has long been the world’s premier gateway to space, the undisputed air traffic hub to the Americas, a major center for flight training and Maintenance Repair and Overhaul, and home to leading manufacturers of all types of aircraft and aircraft components. As a result, Florida has a rich supply chain and talent pool benefiting industry businesses. It’s no wonder industry leaders including Daher, Dessault, Pursuit Aerospace and others have operations here.
Aviation is in Martin County’s DNA thanks to early and enterprising aviators, industry leaders, makers, inventors, and entrepreneurs who chose Martin County more than 100 years ago. Witham Field was founded in 1928 as Krueger Field. In 1942, the airport was leased to the United States Navy as a part of the war effort and later renamed Witham Field after Martin County native Paul “Homer” Witham.
Today, the airport, operated by the County, is a thriving hub for commerce in Martin County and South Florida, creating an annual economic impact of over $1.3 billion.
The on-site U.S. Customs Facility is the first intermodal clearance facility of its kind allowing boaters, pilots, residents, and visitors to conveniently clear U.S. Customs arriving in Martin County via aircraft and marine vessels.
Annually, one of the nation’s top 10 air shows, as ranked by USA Today’s 10 Best Readers’ Choice Awards, the Stuart Air Show produces an awe-inspiring 3-day airshow at Witham Field every November.
