MidFlorida Credit Union Renews Their Commitment to the BDB and Laser-focused on Financial Literacy for Young People.

Building financial literacy for teens with real-world experiences is something that Trent Wilson, Stuart Branch Manager, MidFlorida Credit Union, is very passionate about.  “Young adults need guidance when it comes to being financially literate,” says Wilson. “As they move into adulthood and have more responsibilities, it’s important to provide opportunities for teens to develop lifelong skills in a safe, local, and friendly environment, and that’s what Teen Night is all about.”

Connecting with and contributing to the community is a driving factor for Wilson. Teaming up with leaders in the area to optimize impact motivates him daily, especially when he thinks back on his career, which started just a few years ago at a MidFlorida branch in Okeechobee.  MidFlorida was one of his jobs out of school; since then, he’s been married, purchased his first home, and worked his way up to branch manager in Stuart, “I couldn’t imagine working anywhere else because the company culture is prioritizing teamwork, developing employees as leaders and community involvement.”

Recently, MidFlorida Credit Union renewed its partnership with the BDB, citing the critical importance of investing in our community’s economic development. When Trent Wilson, Stuart Branch Manager, met with us, he said, “Everyone deserves the opportunity to thrive, and a strong economy enables that.”

MidFlorida began in 1954 as Polk County Teachers Credit Union. They have continued to value and support the importance of education, so they developed the “Money Minute” program, a financial literacy platform that helps young people gain the knowledge and skills needed to take control of their finances and make informed decisions at an early age. On April 30, 5-7 p.m., in branches across Florida, including the Stuart branch at 2370 S. Kanner Highway, staff will host their annual Teen Night, where finance and fun intersect.
